Pet of the Week: Ray Ray

August 29, 2025 / Dana / Happy Endings

[Update: Adopted 9/15/25 after a 1 week foster-to-adopt trial] Meet Ray Ray – A Retired Tomcat Looking for Love! This fluffy and handsome 5-year-old is thriving indoors and discovering the joys of cozy living. Affectionate and laid-back, he is a lapcat that enjoys watching the nature channel on TV. Once a neighborhood mystery, Ray Ray is now safe in foster care and waiting for a loving forever home.

March 2025 – Abandoned, homeless, hungry, lonely

July 2025 – Thriving in foster care

Ray Ray is looking for his forever home — a quiet, cozy spot where he can finally relax and enjoy the comforts he’s missed. Recently neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped (on Friday, July 4th), Ray Ray has come a long way. After a short recovery from an abscess in a small outdoor catio, he’s now in foster care where he’s adjusting to life indoors — and loving the space and safety.

Estimated to be around 4–5 years old, he is a sweet, affectionate cat who clearly knew a home once. He loves being near people and will happily keep you company. He’s been alone for a while, so he is super happy to be inside with a loving foster family who plays with him, lets him snuggle in their lap and be relaxed and happy.

Ray Ray’s story touched an entire neighborhood: he’d been surviving outdoors, quietly longing for a home of his own, while kind neighbors fed him. No one realized he was truly homeless until concerned folks started comparing notes on Nextdoor. One determined neighbor even launched a full campaign — flyers, Pawsboost, and a collar note — to find his people. Sadly, no one came forward.

He’s doing well with other fixed, in/outdoor cats he’s met and would likely do fine with a slow, respectful introduction to other resident cats. He’s not a fighter — just a mellow guy looking for peace and a soft bed. Bonus points if you put the nature channel on for him– he loves watching that in his foster home!

Ray Ray currently weighs about 9.5 lbs and is a little on the lean side, but he’s already putting on healthy weight with regular meals. His coat is shedding its rough, outdoor past and growing in sleek and glossy — a perfect match for his emerging indoor lifestyle.

If you’re looking for an affectionate, loyal companion who’s ready to leave street life behind, he could be the perfect addition to your home.
