I am now showing off my FIFTH Adult Homeless Foster Cat.
My intention with this series is to draw attention to the serious backlog of adult homeless foster cats stuck, totally stuck in the foster care system.
Let me introduce you to my pal, NICKY … a senior, but totally hot bachelor, searching for his forever family.
Nicky: “Hey there. You must be Savannah…come on in.”
Savannah: *looks over shoulder, peeks around corner…glances up* “Oh you must be Nicky!
Nicky: “You are quick Savannah…heh…heh…come on up and join me.”
Savannah: “ummm…Nicky, I don’t ‘do’ heights very well and I truly dislike having all four paws off the floor at the same time, na’mean?”
Nicky: “Oh come on Savannah. You’re a cat and certainly younger than me and look at me up here on top of the kitchen cupboards”
Savannah: *letting out a huge sigh…steps back and leaps to counter, then to cupboard* “Oh my, that was totally scary. Nicky would you mind moving your tail just a bit so I can get away from the edge?”
Nicky: “Of course.
Savannah: “That’s lots better. Now, first thanks for agreeing to meet with me. I am trying hard to help as many adult homeless foster cats as I can get their hopes and dreams heard. So Nicky, I already know this is not your real home, just a stopping off point until your real family can find you. But how did you come here in the first place?”
Nicky: “Now that is a long story Savannah. And some of it I don’t really remember. I’ll try to make it short.
Let’s see…*counting on claws* I am about 11-12 years old and I have been with this foster lady since 2005. I was just a young’n when she first took me into her care. You see I was part of a family of cats abandoned at the Port Of Oakland. We were all living in an old boat repair building. All the other kittens were adopted out but not me.
Eventually the foster lady moved our whole colony to this location and I have been here ever since. I see other cats get adopted, but it just never seems to be my turn. Now I am a senior dude and likely no one is ever gonna want me now. But, I do know that Community Concern 4 Cats, my rescue organization, will make sure I am well cared for UNTIL my forever family finds me.
Savannah: “Nicky, come on and buck up your spirits. I am sure we can help you and your forever family find one another.”
Nicky: “I try to be positive Savannah. That’s why I decided to let the foster lady know I was ready, willing and able to get adopted. You see I used to hang around mostly outside. We are safe here and can come and go as we please…in and out. But I decided I wanted that forever home others got to have so I moved myself right inside with my foster lady. Now she can see how warm, cuddly and fun I am. I like to spend as much time as I can in her lap.”
Savannah: “Yeowzers Nicky, smart move on your part!”
Nicky: “I thought I had best take matters into my own paw so to speak. I sleep on the bed next to her and purr up a storm. As you can see, where we are hanging out right now is a favorite spot for me. I like being up here on top of the cupboards so I can keep an eye on what’s happening.
I like the others cats that live here, but I prefer to keep some distance if I can. Plus I have the added advantage of knowing exactly when the foster lady becomes the food lady and starts serving up the chow!”
Savannah: “MOL! I can tell you are getting your exercise and look at your gorgeous brown tabby furs; all shiny. You are a very healthy mancat at 11-12 years of age Nicky.”
Nicky: *blushing* “Oh gosh Savannah, a mancat has to keep up his good looks and slender body”.
Savannah: “Can you describe for my readers what hopes and dreams you have when you think of having your own forever home.”
Nicky: *chuckles* “Well, as you can see I certainly hope to find a very tall cat tree just for me! And I love my wet food so having that for all meals would be so wonderful. I don’t mind some treats now and then too.
I would really enjoy having my human(s) give me a nice lap to nap on and I don’t mind if they have one or two other adult cats. But you know, I don’t think I will be very comfortable with young humans, you know the kind, small and very active!
Oh yes, I can’t forget. I simply MUST have a window or two with a view! I so enjoy watching the outdoors and window whiffies are a must as well.
I hope they won’t mind that I like to be the greeter whenever new people come to visit. I make sure to give them head bumps and walk them to their seats.” (be sure to hover over each photo to view captions…you will miss out if you don’t!)
Savannah: “Nicky, what would you say that makes you special; a cat that humans won’t forget?”
